What are Halfway Houses Like?

Halfway houses, such as Pathways to Peace, provide a safe, structured living environment for individuals who have recently completed treatment and are interested in furthering their recovery or for those who are looking for a stable place to live while they participate in treatment.  Halfway houses enforce guidelines to maintain the safety of residents and ensure that all residents are abstaining from drugs and alcohol.  In general, they provide apartments or living quarters that promote a home-like atmosphere.  They are staffed with professionals who are committed to supporting residents as they transition to a sober lifestyle.

Pathways to Peace for Women is a halfway house that’s located in Palm Beach County, Florida.  Our halfway house is located only minutes from the breathtaking beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as several other local attractions that encourage sobriety and recovery.  Pathways to Peace is conveniently located near Twelve Step meeting locations, local educational institutions, entertainment venues, restaurants, shopping options, libraries and public transportation opportunities.

Along with convenience, Pathways to Peace provides a variety of services to support residents as they transition from treatment to independent living.  Our caring, professional staff members are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions, address issues and provide support.  We offer access to family, legal and one-on-one counseling options that address addiction and the impact it has had on the addict and those closest to them.  Residents have access to group therapy sessions that connect them with other recovering individuals through shared experiences and support.  At Pathways to Peace, residents have the option of participating in educational groups that provide useful information and helpful resources about addiction, the recovery process and sobriety.  They are able to take advantage of interactive life skills training and community outreach events, such as outdoor barbecues, trips to local water parks and other recreational activities.  Residents are able to speak with a spiritual advisor and/or mentor if they’d like.  Pathways to Peace also provides transportation to and from certain Twelve Step meetings, other treatment programs, the grocery store and other necessary locations.

Our comfortable, serene environment offers one and two bedroom and bathroom suite options, both of which are fully furnished.  Clients are able to relax on new pillow top mattresses and enjoy clean linens and towels.  Kitchens are fully equipped with appliances and utensils.  We also offer upgraded Direct TV packages on our flat screen TVs and hi-speed wireless Internet.  Residents also have access to an onsite, coin operated laundry room.

During a stay at Pathways to Peace, we ask that all residents maintain sobriety by abstaining from using drugs and/or drinking alcohol.  We also expect clients to abide by the following guidelines:

  • be welcoming of feedback and support provided by Pathways to Peace staff and managers
  • attend Twelve Step meetings each day
  • actively incorporate the Twelve Steps into daily routine, actions, conversations and thoughts
  • seek employment or volunteer time and services
  • attend regularly hosted Pathways to Peace house meetings
